Curriculum Description The Algebra 1 course utilizes Teaching Textbooks Curriculum. Teaching Textbooks is a comprehensive curriculum covering all the mathematical topics needed to be successful for Algebra 1. In addition, the program utilizes a computer-based technology to track a student’s progress with the different lessons, quizzes, and tests. Furthermore, an automatic grade book feature generates reports for practice problems, assigned problems, and quizzes. More importantly, the curriculum is student and parent friendly. For instance, the grade book can be edited, so the parent or teacher can delete the record for a problem or an entire lesson if students need to redo them. Moreover, the program contains step-by-step video lectures explaining all the mathematical concepts introduced in each chapter as well as tutorial videos for every problem in the program. The students can watch and re watch the lesson videos as many times as they need in order to ensure mastery. In total, the Teaching Textbooks program contains over 150 hours of recorded tutorial videos. It is as if the student has “on call” access to his or her own private tutor. Also, students are able to check their accuracy after completing each math problem which provides immediate and much needed feedback for the student. This feature is very powerful motivating them to want to learn more. Lastly, the extensive tutorial support ensures the student will understand the material and, in turn, benefiting the parent that might struggle with teaching their student(s) challenging mathematical concepts.
Class Description: In this Algebra course, the student will utilize Teaching Textbooks to cover the standard topics, including: fractions, decimals, geometric concepts, algebraic equations, dealing with x, slope-intercept, order of operations, powers, scientific notation, graphing, inequalities, and more.
